6 Tech Tips for a Safer and More Fun Halloween

Written by Jessica DeForge | Oct 29, 2024 6:29:38 PM

Halloween night is almost here! As a proud aunt who loves Halloween, I’m getting ready to take my nieces and nephews on a memorable trick-or-treat adventure. While they’re focused on candy and costumes, I’m making sure we’re prepared with some clever tech to keep things safe and fun.

Here’s a roundup of six tech tools I’m trying out this Halloween!

1. Wearable Running Lights

There’s nothing like walking around neighborhoods aglow with jack-o’-lanterns, but dark costumes can make it hard for drivers to see us. This year, I’m bringing wearable running lights for my little trick-or-treaters. These clip-on lights are bright enough to make sure they’re visible to cars while they move from house to house, so everyone stays safe and visible in the Halloween magic.

2. Portable Charger

I’m notorious for letting my phone battery drain, and Halloween is no time for that! With all the photo ops and safety check-ins, a portable charger is a must-have in my bag. This way, my phone stays powered up and ready to capture every spooky (and adorable) moment without worrying about the dreaded low-battery warning.

3. Selfie Ring Light

Speaking of photos, dim lit Halloween nights can make capturing good shots difficult. I’m packing a selfie ring light to make sure our Halloween photos are sharp and bright. This little gadget clips onto your phone and adds a soft, even glow, which is perfect for dimly lit streets. If it’s paired with a Bluetooth remote, you’ve got an ideal setup to make sure you’re included in the photos!

4. LED Flashlight

This might seem obvious, but an LED flashlight is a Halloween staple I sometimes forget in the excitement. Not only does it help light up pathways to prevent trips and falls, but it’s also handy for little ones who might be startled by spooky decor. Plus, the flashlight adds an extra layer of visibility for cars, keeping everyone safe as they navigate the neighborhood.

5. Portable Speaker

We always bring a wagon for our trick-or-treating journey—perfect for tired kiddos, carrying bags, or holding a stash of jackets. This year, I’m leveling up our wagon with a portable speaker to bring some Halloween tunes along for the ride! Playing festive music adds a bit of magic to the experience, turning the night into a fun-filled Halloween adventure.

6. Nextdoor’s Treat Map App

I'm excited to try out this app as a trick-or-treat planning tool! With Nextdoor’s Treat Map, you can scout the best decorated and candy-filled houses in advance. After signing up, you can mark your house with a candy corn icon to let neighbors know you’re handing out treats and see who else is participating. On Halloween night, you can use the map to navigate the neighborhood and make sure your crew visits the most festive homes on the block!

Halloween holds so many fun memories for me and I’m excited for the memories that 2024 holds! With these tools, I hope to add some extra fun for the kiddos while giving me and the other adults in our crew peace of mind.
